Company History

PetPartners sold its first pet insurance policy in the U.S. in 2002 but the company’s history goes back to the 1980’s when John Spurling purchased and developed pet health insurance for the Kennel Club of Great Britain. Then years later, in 2002, Spurling launched PetPartners in the United States.

Since 2002, PetPartners has been the exclusive provider of pet insurance to registrants of the American Kennel Club. In 2004, PetPartners was selected by the Cat Fanciers’ Association to provide insurance to their registrants.

PetPartners offers an array of coverage options from standard pet insurance coverage to comprehensive wellness plans.

Insurance

CompanionCare

CompanionCare is PetPartners’ standard accident and illness pet insurance policy. It covers any unexpected health issues including emergency care, surgery and medications.

AlternativePlus

This coverage is included in the CompanionCare plan and covers alternative, holistic and behavioral care including chiropractic treatment, acupuncture, herbal supplements and vitamins.

ExamPlus

For an additional cost, this rider covers the cost of exam fees for your sick or injured pet. Eligible at your regular veterinarian, specialty clinics and emergency rooms.

SupportPlus

For an additional cost, SupportPlus covers expenses incurred when having to say goodbye to your beloved pet.

Wellness

Like many pet insurance companies, PetPartners offers wellness care for an additional charge. There are two preventative care options to choose from.

Defender

Coverage for various routine and preventative care expenses that help keep our pets healthy, including dental cleanings or spay/neuter.

DefenderPlus

Coverage for various routine and preventative care expenses that help keep our pets healthy.

The average cost for an PetPartners Pet Insurance plan is between $24-54/month. Prices depend on your pet’s breed, age and the zip code you live in. You can also adjust your coverage options to meet your monthly budget goals. The wellness plans are fixed price. Defender is $17 per month and DefenderPlus is $29 per month.
