Policy Exclusions

The ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program. will not pay for costs associated with or resulting from the following:

Dental Services
  • Aesthetic, cosmetic, endodontic, or orthodontic dental services.

Non-Medical Services and Supplies
  • Boarding

  • Breeding, pregnancy, whelping, or nursing

  • Cosmetic and elective prostheses or procedures

  • Grooming or grooming supplies

  • House call fees, time, and travel expenses

  • Non-medical supplies such as toys, leashes, ramps, bedding, etc.

  • Training or training devices

  • Treatment and Procedures

Experimental or investigational treatment
  • Funeral services, memorial items, urns, caskets, or burial plots/fees

  • Organ or heart valve transplants

  • Treatment arising from specific situations (e.g., avian influenza, intentional slaughter, epidemics or pandemics, war, etc.)

Preventative and General Health Maintenance
  • Conditions that occur during a waiting period

  • Dental cleanings unless used to treat a covered illness

  • Preventative care without an occurrence

  • Prescription pet food, pet food used beyond symptom resolution

Miscellaneous Exclusions
  • Illness or injury from intentional, malicious, or grossly negligent activities

  • Ligament and knee conditions with pre-existing occurrences

  • Non-veterinary services and administrative fees

  • Pre-existing conditions

  • Veterinary expenses related to specific activities (coursing, organized fighting, law enforcement, etc.)

  • Treatment by a veterinarian who is you or a co-owner on your account or an immediate family member

Premiums are based on and may increase or decrease due to the age of your pet, the species or breed of your pet, and your home address. This is a summarized overview. Pre-existing conditions are not covered, and various terms such as waiting periods, deductibles, co-insurance, benefit limits, and exclusions may apply. Products, schedules, rates, and discounts are subject to change.
